The House of Representatives has confirmed that the National Assembly is in the process of acquiring and disseminating Prado Jeeps worth 130 million naira to law makers.
This was made known to the general public on Sunday 15th October, 2023 in a statement by Rep Rotimi Akin, the spokesperson of the House of Reps in Abuja.
He said the Jeeps are not personal gifts and that the initiative aligns with existing procurement laws. Adding that it was a customary practice in previous assemblies.
In his statement, he stated that for the duration of the 10th Assembly from 2023 to 2027, the vehicles will remain the property of the National Assembly. And that if at the end of the Assembly’s tenure in 2027, should the government’s extant assets deboarding policy still be in place, the law makers can purchase the vehicle if they so desire.
Speaking on the importance of the vehicle’s purchase, he stated that the vehicles are tools and not status symbols which will aid lawmakers in their duties, constituency outreach and functions in various regions of the country.
The aim is to ensure that the interventions, programmes and policies are effectively carried out irrespective of location.
