APC Leaders Express Disapproval Of Tinubu Selecting Wike As The FCT Minister.

Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, a key member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, voiced concerns regarding President Bola Tinubu’s recent choice of appointing Nyesom Wike as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister.

On December 3rd, 2023, Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze released a statement expressing specific reservations about President Bola Tinubu’s recent appointment of Nyesom Wike as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Chief Eze highlighted the recent series of demolitions by the Wike-led administration in the FCT as a cause for concern, particularly in the face of the country’s ongoing economic challenges.

Eze criticized what he viewed as an “autocratic move” by the former Rivers State Governor, stating that instead of implementing economic programs to improve the living standards of FCT residents, Wike opted for a path of demolition, causing hardships for the people.

In his statement, Chief Eze emphasized the importance of democratic principles, asserting that a preference for democratic endeavors is fundamental for any responsible society or government seeking to impact its populace through policies and programs.

He condemned what he described as a “demolition spree targeted at innocent citizens,” especially during a period of economic downturn and currency devaluation. Holding President Tinubu accountable for what he perceived as a lack of due diligence in the appointment, Chief Eze accused the APC leader of overlooking public opposition to Wike’s past actions. He alleged that Wike’s use of his office’s powers to suppress perceived political adversaries under the guise of reformation signals authoritarianism.

Eze pointed out that despite public objections concerning dishonesty, non-performance, and abuse of office, President Tinubu appointed Nyesom Wike as the FCT Minister, seemingly unaware of the former governor’s previous actions. Highlighting the significance of character in public office appointments, Chief Eze lamented that while character is a crucial factor in selecting individuals for public offices in civilized societies, Nigeria appears to lag behind, posing a significant obstacle.
