Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala And Mo’ Abudu Makes Forbes’ 2023 List Of Most Powerful Women.

Forbes Magazine’s World’s Most Powerful Women 2023 list features only two Nigerian women: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Mo’ Abudu. The publication unveiled the list on December 5, 2023.

According to the publication’s criteria, inclusion in the list of the World’s Most Powerful Women 2023 was determined by factors such as financial influence, media presence, impact, and spheres of influence.

Forbes considered GDP, populations, revenues, valuations, employee counts, media mentions, and social reach to compile the list, spotlighting 100 women shaping global policies, products, and political landscapes.

With a career spanning three decades, including roles at the World Bank and as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, currently serving as the Director-General of the WTO, advocates for inclusive economies by recognizing women’s unique experiences in economic planning. Her focus at the WTO includes championing fisheries subsidies in developing countries, particularly benefiting women.

Mo’ Abudu, recognized as a “media mogul and philanthropist,” founded Ebony Life Media and has significantly impacted Nollywood with notable films like Elesin Oba, The King’s Horseman, and The Wedding Party. Abudu and Okonjo-Iweala are collaborating on a Netflix docu-series, Black, Brilliant and Bold.

Notable figures such as Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, and US Vice President Kamala Harris also appear on the list.
