The Federal Government Announces Public Holidays For Christmas And New Year Festivities.

The government has designated December 25th and 26th as public holidays for Christmas and Boxing Day, and Monday, January 1st, 2024 as a public holiday for New Year’s Day, according to a statement by Peter Egbodo, the Director overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior.

He cited the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, as announcing the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government and extended greetings to Christians and all Nigerians at home and abroad.

“Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged Christians to follow the example of Jesus Christ in embodying humility, service, compassion, and patience – values symbolized by His birth,” he stated.

He underscored that peace and security are essential prerequisites for economic development and prosperity.

The minister reassured that the Federal Government has implemented measures to ensure the security of lives, particularly during the festivities.

However, Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to stay vigilant, reporting any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest security agencies. He emphasized the need for discipline during the Yuletide season to safeguard lives and properties nationwide.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo advised all citizens to remain focused, anticipating that the year 2024 will bring a better future with the President’s Renewed Hope agenda. The Minister extends warm wishes for a joyful Christmas and a peaceful, prosperous New Year celebration to all Nigerians, especially Christians, the statement concluded.
