PDP’s G5 Pledge To Support President Tinubu’s Second Term.

President Tinubu and PDP’S G5

Samuel Ortom, the ex-Governor of Benue State, has indicated that the G5 faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is poised to back President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

In the lead-up to the 2023 presidential election, the G5 coalition, consisting of five incumbent governors, rejected their party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. The group, which now includes four former governors – Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) – affirmed their support for Tinubu in the previous general elections.

At a luncheon hosted by Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in Port Harcourt on Sunday, January 7, 2024, Ortom stated that the G5 has no regrets about backing Tinubu and would support him again in 2027 for a second term as Nigeria’s president.

The ex-Governor of Benue State affirmed that Tinubu would address challenges in security, the economy, and other critical areas for Nigerians.

He declared that the group would support him again in 2027 for a second term as Nigeria’s president.

“If we work to ensure Bola Ahmed succeeds, there will be tomorrow for anybody to even contest the election at all.

“Our leader, Nyesom Wike, has already made a declaration that in 2027, we are supporting President Bola Tinubu.

“We have nowhere to go because that is what Nigerians believe. Even the past administration that took Nigeria from top to bottom, we allowed them to work for eight years. So, why can’t a seasoned administrator in the person President Bola Tinubu rule us for eight years?”

This assurance comes just a week after Daniel Bwala, spokesperson for Atiku, announced the former Vice President’s intention to run for president again in 2027. Despite facing six unsuccessful attempts at the presidency over 30 years (1993, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023).

Atiku is determined to enter the 2027 presidential race. Undeterred by his defeat to Tinubu in the 2023 election, Atiku has declared his commitment to persist in his political journey.
