AMVCA 10th Edition: Jury Panel Established

Public voting will no longer be used to determine the winners of some categories at this year’s Africa Magic Viewers Chioce Awards; instead, a select jury system will be put in place. This change came as a result of the black lash the organisers of the award show experienced last year. Critics were of the opinion that the award recipients were not deserving and they only won because of their social media presence and followers.

There will be a total of 16 non-voting categories, encompassing Best Lead Actor, Best Lead Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Art Direction, Cinematography, Costume Design, Best Writing in a Movie and TV Series, Best Movie, Best TV Series, Best Short Film, Best Documentary, and Best Sound Design, Editing, and Makeup.

Additionally, there are eight audience voting categories, including Best Scripted Africa Magic Original, Best Unscripted Africa Magic Original, Best Digital Content Creator, Best Indigenous Language (for West, East, and Southern Africa), Best Multichoice Talent Factory Film, and Best Indigenous Africa Magic Original.

An experienced panel of filmmakers from various parts of the continent, under the guidance of a head juror, will decide the winners in 16 non-voting categories. Meanwhile, the public will have a say in the eight remaining categories through audience voting. Deloitte will, as usual, oversee the judging process and authenticate the voting outcomes.

To enter the awards, all filmmakers must prepare the movie for consideration with online submission. Visit ://www.africamagic.tv/AMVCA
for submissions and more details. Submissions are open and will close on the 14 February, 2024.

The award ceremony will take place in Lagos, Nigeria in May 2024.
