Tinubu Arrives To Inaugurate The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.

President Tinubu has arrived in Lagos to launch the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway. This news was shared in a post by Dada Olusegun, the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, who also posted videos of President Tinubu’s arrival in Lagos.

The Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project, set to span 700 kilometers and traverse nine states, was awarded to Hitech Construction Company Limited under an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Financing (EPC+F) arrangement. In this setup, the contractor assumes most of the risk, while the federal government provides counterpart funding.

Construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway by the Federal Government commenced in March 2024, with the initial phase covering 47.47 kilometers starting from Lagos. In response to public criticism, particularly from figures like Atiku Abubakar, who argued that starting from Lagos suggested a lack of intention to complete the project to Calabar, Minister of Works, David Umahi, clarified that subsequent phases would begin in other states along the route.

The second phase, spanning approximately 55 kilometers from the Lekki Deep Seaport to the Ogun-Ondo state boundary, has received approval from the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE). Umahi previously announced that the third phase, starting in Calabar, Cross River State, is scheduled to commence in July, pending final approvals from the BPE and Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Additionally, other sections of the highway will be constructed separately, including one from Port Harcourt in Rivers State to Bayelsa State and another from Delta State to Ondo State.
