The Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
According to reports, Ajaero was detained on Monday morning at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport while en route to the United Kingdom for an official engagement. He was scheduled to attend the Trade Union Congress conference in London, starting today.
The NLC, through a post on its official X account, has confirmed this
It reads, “The assault on Nigerian workers continues. President of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, was arrested and abducted by men of the DSS at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, this morning on his way to attend an official engagement of TUC United Kingdom, and he is now detained at the office of the NSA.
“This intimidation and assault must stop!!!”
Following the arrest of the NLC president and the first post made, subsequent posts have gone live on the official X page demanding for the release of the president and calling on all affiliate unions of the congress to be on alert.
