Burna Boy Set Several Milestones By Securing Four Nominations For the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.

For years to come, there won’t be an Afrobeats conversation without mentioning Burna Boy. This is due to the global recognition he has brought to Afrobeats through the awards he has won and the records he has set with his music.

In 2019, his fourth studio album Africa Giant was nominated for Best World Music Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards. In 2020, his album Twice as Tall won Best World Album at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.

For the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, he was nominated for Best Global Music Performance and Album of the Year category.

And for the 65th Annual Grammy Awards His single City Boy was nominated for Best African Music Performance, Alone was nominated for Best Global Music Performance, his album I Told Them was nominated for the Best Global Album, and he earned a nomination for Best Melodic Rap Performance for ‘Sittin’ On Top Of The World featuring 21 Savage.

He becomes the first African artist to earn five consecutive Grammy nominations which stretches from 2019 – 2023.

He also becomes the first Nigerian artist to earn four nominations in one year.

He is the first African lead artist to be nominated outside the global categories with his nomination for Best Melodic Rap performance.

His four nominations brings his total nominations to 10 which is a Nigerian record.

Burna Boy was not the only Nigerian artist who put smiles on the faces of their fans yesterday when the nominee list as released. With 3 nominations Davido earns his Grammy nomination debut, Olamide, Asake, Ayra Starr, Fireboy, Ckay and Seun Kuti were also nominated.

The nomination of Nigerian artists is a testament to their artistic prowess and a recognition of their musical achievements, showcasing the boundaries that Afrobeats has not only reached but successfully broken.
