Have you ever tried to lose weight, but giving up on sweet things is too hard, and you fall back to old patterns? If you want to lose weight, you must give up on everything lovely and appealing, right? Wrong!
Losing weight does not have to be dull and bitter. Some snacks are healthy and even help in losing weight. If you have a sweet tooth like I do, here’s a list of sweet snacks you can take without feeling like you are cheating in your weight loss journey:
- Greek yogurt
- Fruit Salad
- Fruit Parfait
- Smoothies
- Mcvities Hobnobs
- Dark Chocolate
- Mcvities Digestive
- Groundnut
- Tigernut
- Boli (Roasted plantain).
- Greek Yogurt: This is the first on the list because it’s an absolute favorite of mine. I came across it when a friend was tired of my unhealthy eating habits and gave me. The taste was so divine it quickly replaced ice cream for me. Not only is it good, but it is healthy, low in calories, and has no fat. Greek Yogurt contains Calcium, which helps improve bone health and reduces the risk of getting a bone disease. It is also protein-rich, filling you up like a proper meal. Greek yogurt is for you if you want to eat just once daily. Greek yogurt comes in sweetened and unsweetened, but for those who like sweet things, sweetened is for you. My personal best is Mich & Kay sweetened Greek yogurt. You can find it n supermarkets beside you.
- Fruit Salad: Fruit salads are an exciting way of eating fruits. They are also easy to make, even if you can’t cook. You can get a few fruits ( like Pineapple, Watermelon, and Apple), wash them and chop them into biteable pieces. After cutting and dishing it in a bowl, place it in a fridge for a couple of hours (depending on how cold your fridge is). Once the fruits are cool enough for your liking, you can mix the fruits with Greek Yogurt just for a unique taste. It is not necessary to cool the fruits or add Greek Yogurt. It depends on your preference.
- Fruit Parfait: Fruit Parfait is a healthy dessert that can be made to suit your taste. It comprise at least three different layers of fruits, yogurt, and nuts. Sometimes sugar or honey is added according to your preference. Just like a fruit salad, anyone can make a fruit parfait. You dice the fruits into small pieces and sweeten the chopped fruits with honey or sugar. Now Fruit parfaits are all about the layers, so start with the nuts, then add the yogurt, and finally, the diced fruits. Continue in that pattern until you fill the cup. A fruit parfait is filling and satisfying. It’s like layers of healthy goodness melting in your mouth.
- Smoothies: Fruit smoothies, to be specific, are your perfect addition to a breakfast meal or, in itself, can be a breakfast meal. It is light and filling and can hold you till your next meal. It is also effortless to make. One of my favorite recipes is the Strawberry- Banana Protein smoothie. I came across the recipe online and decided to try it out. I loved it. All you need are strawberries, bananas, mangoes, and Greek yogurt. Cut the fruits and mix them with yogurt and ice cubes in a blender. Blend until smooth. Serve and enjoy.
- Mcvities Hobnobs: I added Hobnobs to the list to prove that fruits are not the only healthy snacks we can add to our diet. Hobnobs are my go-to snack when I crave something sweet and don’t want to deviate from my diet. It tastes soo good, and it’s healthy. Hobnons has a calorie count of 67 and a low-fat content. One of my favorite things is eating a biscuit that won’t affect my diet negatively.
- Dark Chocolate: Chocolate helps in weight loss? Surprisingly not all chocolates are evil. Recent studies have proven that dark chocolate may help control appetite( essential in any weight loss journey). Eating bits of dark chocolate before and after meals produces hormones that inform the brain that you are full. Eating dark chocolate will not eliminate the effect of an unhealthy lifestyle. So while we intend on adding this to our diet, let’s not forget to create a healthy eating habit first.
- Mcvities Digestive: Digestive is another healthy biscuit you can eat while on a diet. It has a calorie count of 71 and a low-fat content. As much as digestive has a low-calorie intake, it is advised not to overeat it. Portion control is still best.
- Groundnut: We are talking about boiled groundnut here. You know the one Twitter tagged as gossip groundnut? Yes, that one. It contains fiber, protein, and healthy fats. It takes longer to digest and fills you up. Boiled groundnut has a low-calorie intake. Groundnut is a fine addition to your diet. It is also advised not to overeat. It could hinder your diet if you do.
- Tigernut: Tigernuts are a delicious treat that is highly healthy and essential for weight loss. You can eat them in their whole state or drink them in milk. Either way, they taste good. Tiger nuts are rich in fiber. They promote digestion and prevent constipation. It also reduces blood sugar and keeps you full.
- Boli (Roasted Plantain): Boli or bole (in certain places in Nigeria) is a delicious treat that can be combined with groundnuts, sauce, or fish. Boli is not just a tasty treat, but it is also healthy. Like some treats mentioned in this list, boli is also high in fiber. Its high fiber content makes you feel full and helps control your portion. Boli also helps to maintain your weight or trigger weight loss if you’re overweight or obese. Add Boli to your diet and enjoy a sweet but healthy eating habit.
These treats are delicious and healthy, a perfect addition to your healthy lifestyle to sweeten things. But, it is best to eat these foods in moderation. Eating them in excess could counteract the weight loss effect. These foods should be consumed in a balanced diet.
