On Wednesday, the Edo chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) declared the expulsion of former Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu from the party.
The party also expelled Chief Dan Orbih, the National Vice Chairman (South-South), citing anti-party activities.
According to a statement from Mr. Ogie Vasco, the State Publicity Secretary, Mr. Omoregie Ihama, a former House of Representatives member for Oredo Federal Constituency, was expelled for similar reasons. This decision was made during a meeting on Wednesday with nine State Working Committee members at the party’s secretariat in Benin.
“The SWC has extensively deliberated on the issue and resolved to expel, with immediate effect, Chief Dan Orbih, National Vice Chairman South South.
“It also decided to expel Philip Shaibu and upheld the expulsion of Ogbeide-Ihama from Ward 2, Oredo Local Government Area,“ he said.
In response, Orbih informed reporters that the body lacked the authority to suspend a member of the National Working Committee or expel anyone without adhering to the party’s constitutional provisions.
“When a group of persons sits down to make pronouncements that are unconstitutional it only shows that they are ignorant of the constitution of the party.
“That is all I have to say about that and nothing more,” Orbih told newsmen.
