Here’s Why Everyone is Talking about the Movie, Jagun Jagun

There’s this chill that comes when you hear the sound of a talking drum at the opening of a movie backed by the voice of a praise singer, you know you are in for an exciting ride. Jagun Jagun is another Yoruba action blockbuster that has caught the internet on fire.

The movie imbibed the Yourba cosmology, their traditional beliefs in charms, accompanied by music, parables and all verbal communications were in the yourba dialect giving viewers a glance into ancient Yoruba.

It tells the story of Ogundiji (Femi Adebayo), a powerful feared warrior villian by villages who couldn’t contend with his warriors on a battle field, while also being the saviour of greedy and corrupt rulers and Gbotija( Lateef Adedimeji) who has the ability to converse with the trees in the forest and wishes to learn the art of war. In a time where powerful villages were brutally conquering small villages to expand their territories, Ogundiji sits at the top of this affair along side his trained warriors from his school of warriors.

The movie has a series of subplots all interwoven into one, the setting ranges from th Ogundiji’s village to other villages he towers over. Gbotija and Ogundiji’s daughter soon develop a love affair, because of his bold nature he also becomes popular among other warriors. Threatened by the rise of Gbotija’s fame, Ogundiji assigns him threee tasks to perform with the hope of him meeting his death at the end.

While draped in action, Femi Adebayo might have had a hidden message underneath because of Gbotija’s speech when the movie was coming to an end “Listen the plan we all had was to come and learn the art of war and after learning the art of war to be able to defend our villages. Now we will all finish learning the art of war then start waging war against ourselves… You youths, wake up!!! You novices, do not sleep!!! Let us stop allowing them to use us as instruments. Those rich wicked people we are talking about, they know how to use people’s children… They are taking us, making us useless and pitching us against each other.”

Femi Adebayo might have passed a political message with this movie, calling out the corrupt and filthy political system of Nigeria and her politicians, advising Nigerian youths to wake up.

Other casts of the movie include Odunlade Adekola, Bukunmi Oluwashina, Oga Bello, Fathia Balogun, Bimbo Ademoye and others.

The movie currently has over 2.1 million views on Netflix.
