A Federal High Court in Abuja has annulled the impeachment of Phillip Shaibu as the Deputy Governor of Edo on Wednesday.
In his judgment, Justice James Omotosho ordered the reinstatement of Phillip Shaibu as Deputy Governor, citing the Edo State House of Assembly’s failure to follow due process in the impeachment. He determined that the impeachment allegations were legally insufficient and did not amount to gross misconduct.
Consequently, the judge directed the Inspector-General of Police to provide Shaibu with necessary security for resuming his office duties until his term ends.
Additionally, the judge nullified the appointment of another deputy governor to replace Shaibu. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Shaibu, present in court, wept with joy upon hearing the ruling.
