In 2023, Nigerian cinema witnessed some of its finest moments with a diverse range of compelling tales such as “The Black Book,” “Blood Vessel,” “Ijogbon,” “She Must Be Obeyed,” “The Origin of Madam Koi-Koi,” and more. As we step into 2024, the cinematic journey continues with a promising start. Here’s a preview of the movies set to grace the screens this January:

Checkout

Checkout is an Africa Magic original series. It is a comedy series about a supermarket and the day to day activities of its workers. The cast includes Ebere Nwizu, Mariam Kayode, Obi Maduegbena, Davidson David, Oguntimehin Oluwafemi and Tessy Brown. Premiering 8 pm on January 1, 2024, on Africa Magic Urban, the series will air every Monday and Friday.

Merry Men 3

The third sequel of Merry Men will be streaming on Netflix on January 18,2024. The merry men will be faced by Dafe(Chidi Mokeme) who returns to seek revenge after he was left behind in Russia during one of their missions. Directed by Moses Inwang, the cast includes AY Makun, Ramsey Noah, Sam Dede, Segun Arinze, Bucci Franklin, Nadia Buari, Jide Kosoko, Ufuoma McDermott, Iyabo Ojo, Francis Onwochei, Regina Daniels and Caroline Hutchings.

The Theory Of Breakfast

Another Africa Magic series which centres on two BFFs who have secretly been in love with each other. A wedding preparation brings their feelings to light. The series premieres on January 1,2024 and will continue airing on Africa Magic Showcase on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8:30pm.

Adire

Adire, crafted and penned by Jack’enneth Opukeme, who also took on an acting role, unfolds the tale of Kehinde Bankole’s character, navigating her way through a troubled past that resurfaces unexpectedly. Under the direction of Adeoluwa Owu (Captain Degzy), the film features a cast including Femi Branch, Kelechi Udegbe, Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi, Ibrahim Chatta, Yemi Blaq, Yvonne Jegede, Lizzy Jay, Mike Afolarin, Tomi Ojo, Damilola Ogunsi, Onyinye Odokoro, Ifeanyi Kalu, and Layi Wasabi. Adire is set to hit Netflix for streaming starting January 13, 2023.

Hook, Line and Sinkah

Hook, Line and Sinkah is a comedy-drama narrating the experiences of Ugo, Sodiq, and Kenny Sinkah, three brothers brought together by their adventurous father for a joint business venture. The series promises a turbulent journey for the trio. Catch the premiere on Africa Magic on January 3, 2024, at 8:30 pm.
