Monday Okpebholo Sworn In as Edo State Governor, Marking a New Political Era

Monday Okpebholo, a former senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has officially assumed office as the governor of Edo State.

The inauguration took place in Benin, the capital of Edo State, where Okpebholo was sworn in at about 1 pm on Tuesday, November 12.

Okpebholo’s win in the September 21 governorship election marked a notable shift in the state’s political dynamics.

He secured 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 247,274 votes. Olumide Akpata from the Labour Party finished third with 22,763 votes.

Okpebholo’s deputy, Dennis Idahosa, also took the oath of office. The event was attended by notable figures, including Vice-President Kashim Shettima, the chair of the governors’ forum, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, and Edo’s reinstated deputy governor, Philip Shaibu.

Okpebholo was born on August 29, 1970, in the Udomi-Uwessan community of Irrua. He attended Udomi Community Primary School and Ujabhole Community Secondary School, both located in Uwesan Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area. He completed his secondary education and earned his senior school certificate in Jos, Plateau State. Later, he earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Abuja, where he also completed a Master’s degree in Policy and Leadership Studies.
