Odunlade Adekola’s epic Yoruba movie, Orisa, will begin streaming on Prime Video starting from February 2, 2024.
The official distributor, Film One, announced earlier today, Wednesday, January 31, 2024, via an Instagram post. The movie, Orisa is situated in a historic Yoruba town. The main character, Orisa, portrayed by Ademola, is a formidable fighter who joins forces with a group of proficient warriors. Their illicit deeds become a concern for the king and rival gangs in the city. When a mission fails, a hidden truth emerges, putting Orisa and his team of fighters in jeopardy.
The Yoruba-language film premiered in cinemas nationwide on July 31, 2023.
Despite competing with Hollywood hits like Barbie and Oppenheimer on the same release day, it set a new record for the year’s largest epic opening week, earning ₦27.6 million.
Directed by Adekola, Orisa boasts a cast including notable actors such as Femi Adebayo, Shaffy Bello, Jide Kosoko, Dele Odule, Muyiwa Ademola, and Eniola Ajao.
After a 14-week run in cinemas nationwide, Orisa concluded its box office run with a total gross of ₦127.89 million, according to the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN).
