The Labour Party’s presidential candidate on September 19,2023 filed an appeal at the supreme court contending the verdict of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) which had dismissed the petition against APC candidate, President Bola Tinubu.
The tribunal’s verdict was on the grounds that the petitioner had not successfully proved the allegations, in Justice Tsammani words
“This petition accordingly lacks merit. I affirm the return of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the duly elected President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The parties are to bear the cost.”
The appellant in his appeal states that the Presidential Election Petition Court( PEPC) erred in law and thereby reached a wrong conclusion when it dismissed the petition. He challenged the PEPT verdict on the grounds that Justice Tsammani led five member panel of the court had performed an act of injustice when it held that there was no specification of polling unit where irregularities took place during the election and also the figures of votes that were allegedly suppressed or inflated in favour of the APC candidate were not specify, in other words the evidence presented by LP and Peter Obi were not weighty.
This recent development in the case has sparked a light in the heart of the LP supporters who were not happy about the PEPT judgement.
