President Bola Tinubu has allegedly instructed all cement producers in the nation to return to the previous price of the product.
David Umahi, the Minister of Works, revealed this information during his inspection of the BUA cement factory in Sokoto on Thursday, February 29, 2024.
President Tinubu recently instructed cement manufacturers not to exceed ₦7,000 for a 50kg bag of the product nationwide.
However, Alhaji Kabiru, the Executive Director of BUA Group, stated that the company has been selling the product at ₦6000 per bag in alignment with the president’s directive on cement pricing.
In response, Umahi praised BUA Cement’s management for their action and encouraged them to strive for further improvements.
He said, “On the issue of pricing I can authoritatively say that they can still do better in line with their discussion with Mr. President.”
“Mr. President insisted that they should go bag to the status quo as far this cement price is concerned for the common man.
“I want to encourage them to abide by the directive of Mr President so that we can achieve a massive housing programme and the renewed hope agenda of concrete roads by the President.”
Additionally, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, addressing the gathering, praised BUA management for meeting the demands of its duties. Tambuwal urged the management of the cement company to enhance production capacity and guarantee the accessibility of the product to the public at reasonable prices.
