President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) on Monday signed into law the Student Loan Bill which provides loan to Nigerian students to help reduce the burden of tuition fees. This was one of the highlighted part of his campaign during the 2023 presidential elections where he promised to make quality education accessible to even the poor of the poor.
Some Things To Note About The Student Loan Bill
- The applicant must apply to the Chairman of the education bank and thorough the student affairs office of the various institutions.
- The income or family income of the applicant shall be less than 500,000 per annum.
- Each applicant must provide two guarantors who must be a civil servant, a judicial officer, or a justice of peace.
- A student can be disqualified if they have been convicted of drug related offences in the past.
- Payment of the loan shall commence two years after the completion of the applicant’s NYSC programme.
