The Lagos State Government Rejects Rhodes-Vivour’s Claim of Financial Misconduct Against Sanwo-Olu.

On Tuesday in Ikeja, the Lagos State government refuted claims of financial wrongdoing made by Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the March 18 election, against Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

On November 19, Rhodes-Vivour claimed on his Twitter account that Sanwo-Olu financed his defense in the election petition filed by the Labour Party against his victory using public funds. He asserted that the governor disbursed ₦50 million from the state’s resources to four lawyers.

In response to the accusation, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, denied Rhodes-Vivour’s claim, stating that there was no truth to the allegation.

Omotoso emphasized that the allegation was a deceptive tactic to mislead the public regarding a supposed payment of ₦50 million to four lawyers, which never occurred. He clarified that the referenced transaction involved an unapproved payment request that the governor, upon being alerted by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, did not approve due to its irregularity.

The commissioner affirmed Gov. Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to upholding his Oath of Office and clarified that the document presented by Rhodes-Vivour in support of his claim lacked the Lagos State Government’s logo and the endorsement of any of its officials.
