The Supreme Court Upholds The Election Victory Of Governor Sanwo-Olu.

The Supreme Court has upheld Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s victory in the Lagos State Governor election. On Friday, January 12, 2024, the highest court confirmed Sanwo-Olu’s election.

The apex court rejected Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour’s appeal, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, citing a lack of merit. Rhodes-Vivour argued in his appeal that Obafemi Hamzat, Sanwo-Olu’s deputy, had forfeited his Nigerian citizenship. Nevertheless, the court affirmed that Hamzat is a Nigerian by birth.

The court, with a unanimous decision, upheld the prior judgment from the Court of Appeal Lagos on the Lagos governorship election dispute. The panel of five judges, including Garba Lawal, Okoro, Emmanuel Agim, Uwani Abba-Aji, and Adamu Jauro, delivered the verdict.

Additionally, the court rejected the appeal of Abdul-Azeez Adediran, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, with Justice Jauro stating that the appeal lacked merit in the lead judgment.
