Any relationship can work if the right people are involved, but with the prevalence of scandals in our society, even celebrities are not immune to name-calling or online bullying. It is commonly held that as an individual entering the marriage institution, while in a relationship with your other half, there are usually clear “signs” that some relationships will work while others will only lead to avoidable disasters and heartbreaks, but it is ultimately up to you to decide whether or not you want to continue with such relationships.
Some of Nollywood’s finest actresses are thought to have gotten involved with or married other women’s men at some point; some of these relationships are still going strong, while others have fallen apart.
1. Mercy Johnson Okojie
One of Nigeria’s most adored actresses, Mercy Johnson, has been a part of Nollywood for almost 20 years. She has acted in more than 80 films and is still going strong. Mercy was motivated to pursue acting after learning about Genevieve Nnaji’s career. She has said in interviews that after seeing Genevieve in Sharon Stone, she became a huge fan. Along with celebrities like Funke Akindele, Adesua Etomi, and Linda Ikeji, Mercy is one of Nigeria’s highest-paid actresses.
The Kogi State-born actress wed Prince Odi Okojie in 2011; they have four children together. Mrs. Lovely Okojie wrote the movie star an open letter in 2011 pleading with her to divorce her spouse and look for a single man to wed. Lovely alleged that Prince Odi, who was still her legal husband at the time, fathered her two children.
2. Nuella Njubigbo
After six years of marriage to actress Sophia Chikere, Nuella Njubigbo married director Tchidi Chikere on March 29, 2014, a union that gave birth to three children. Since she was charged with dissolving Tchidi’s first marriage in order to have him all to herself, their marriage aroused a lot of public ire.
3. Mercy Aigbe
Mercy Aigbe is an expert in marrying people’s husbands. She first married Lanre Gentry in 2013. Together, they had two children. After the actress shared images of herself online and claimed her spouse had harmed her, their relationship struck a snag in 2017. She divorced him after being accused of domestic abuse. Kareem Adeoti, who is still legally wed to his first wife Funsho Adeoti, was remarried to Mercy Aigbe in 2022. Adeoti Funsho has four kids, but the actress hasn’t started having children for her new husband.
4. Funke Akindele
One of the shortest marriages in Nollywood history was Funke Akindele’s first union with Kehinde Oloyede, which took place in a spectacular ceremony. The actress was divorced before she wed Mr. Kehinde, who was the father of about six children by three women. Funke remarried a previously married Nigerian rapper named Abdul Rasheed Bello, better known by his stage name JJC Skillz, in London in May 2016. Two sons were born from Funke and JJC Skillz’s partnership, but sadly, their marriage ended last year, in 2023. JJC Skillz recently married a new wife.
5. Stella Damasus
Daniel Ademinokan and Stella’s marriage also took up a lot of headline space. Daniel married Doris Simeon, another actress before Stella. Many people still hold Stella responsible for her transgression in sneaking into a coworker’s marital home.
6. Regina Daniels
When the young actress revealed her connection with rich businessman Ned Nwoko, it garnered attention on social media.Regina was more than happy to become the wealthy man’s sixth wife and move into his home. Despite requests from family members to reconsider, Rita Daniels, her mother, was steadfastly supportive of the union.
However, Regina and her husband are a happy couple and have now welcomed two sons. The Nollywood actress recently made an intriguing disclosure about her marriage and what kept her there despite arguments with her rich husband, Ned Nwoko.
In a video she posted online early last month, she disclosed that in addition to their marriage’s lovely moments, there have also been fights.
The mother of two revealed that there were times when they quarreled, and it reached the point where she considered divorcing her husband, but they managed to get through it and are still happily married today.
She claimed that after considering her husband, Ned, as a good man in a horrible circumstance or mood and trying to escape it, she persuaded herself to remain. She stated, “After a significant argument with my spouse, I attempted to go… He’s a decent guy. He simply finds himself in a difficult circumstance and is attempting to resolve it. “It’s me and my mind all the time,” she continued.
7. Ini Edo
Ini Edo married Philip Ehiagwina in 2008; they reside in America. A year later, Ruth Okoro, purportedly Philip’s wife, allegedly sent the actress an open letter advising her to divorce her husband. The actress’s marriage ended in 2014. In any case, the fact that she didn’t have a kid for him made their divorce simple.
However, the movie star gave birth to a baby girl in 2021 through surrogacy amid a flurry of scandals.
On March 15, Light, the daughter of Nollywood celebrity actress Ini Edo, turned two.The first-time mother, who couldn’t control her joy, shared beautiful pictures of herself alongside her daughter on Instagram with a heartwarming caption:
“On the 15th of March 2021, God blessed me with the greatest gift and my biggest heart desire.””A brilliant light and the sweetest, cutest young lady.” I had no idea how drastically my life would alter and how much solace and joy a person could provide.”I adore you more than life itself, my wise and loving princess.””To us and to your generation, you are a light. I re-dedicate you to the God who gave you to me as you turn 2 years old.
“The One who does neither sleep nor wake up… He’s doing a great job of looking after us.Grow in knowledge and grace, my little angel. Too much love from your mother”.
The 40-year-old actress first revealed the information that she had a daughter to prominent blogger Stella Dimoko during an interview.
Following an ex-beauty queen, Nike Osinowo, who made a similar admission in 2013, Ini Edo is the second Nigerian celebrity to openly disclose having welcomed a child via surrogacy.
8. Rosy Meurer
Rosy Meurer, a Nollywood actress born in Gambia, married Olakunle Churchill in 2019. Tonto Dikeh’s estranged husband, her coworker Rosy claims that she didn’t enter anyone’s home illegally and that God’s plan was fulfilled in her marriage to Churchill. The couple is still blissfully married, and they share a son.
There’s no marriage without its ups and downs, but how we manage these difficult moments is what matters. Marriage is not always a bed of roses.
