Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Ayodeji Balogun, better known by his stage name, Wizkid, has caused a stir on social media with his scathing reply to music mogul Don Jazzy in response to a tweet from Mavin Records signee Ladipoe.
Ladipoe’s tweet that alluded to an Afrobeats artist’s career downfall sparked the debate. A worried X user noticed the tweet and brought it to Wizkid’s attention.
Wizkid responded by dismissing the idea of working with artists signed to “an influencer,” a subtly disparaging remark directed at Don Jazzy, the label Ladipoe is released under.
Don Jazzy responded by unfollowing Wizkid on Instagram.
Nigerian musician David Adeleke, aka Davido, has taken aim at Wizkid, his colleague, after the latter posted a video purporting to show the DMW boss pleading with a lady. According to Davido, Wizkid’s songs are no longer recognized. He announced with pride that Wizkid and other people had not known peace of mind since he got into the music business.
In response, Wizkid stated that Davido was not better than him in the music business.
The singers’ interaction sparked a number of reactions and set tongues rolling on social media.
When Wizkid used a video of his former employer to make fun of a fan, singer Peruzzi and a former Davido signee called him a reptile. The Afrobeats genre was negatively portrayed, according to media personality Adesope Olajide, better known by his stage name Shopsydoo, when Wizkid mentioned Don Jazzy as an influencer.
