Which Funke Akindele Character Is Your Favourite: Jedidah in “A Tribe Called Judah” or Yejide in “Battle on Buka Street”?

Since Funke Akindele began a career in Nollywood until now, she has proven that acting accompanied her out of her mother’s womb. She has shown talent, hard work, and dedication.

We have seen Funke Akindele in all spheres, as an actress, a director, a producer, and a promoter. Her recent Nollywood movie titled A Tribe Called Judah is evidence of what Funke Akindele brings to the table, and it is nothing short of genius. During the holidays, the movie kicked off with a bang. It became the first Nollywood film to gross over 113 million naira in its opening weekend and the first Nollywood movie to hit 1 billion naira at the box office. And it is still enjoying wide-spread fame as it is set to start streaming in cinemas in nine French-speaking African countries soon.

While this movie cannot be said to be the actress’s best project, Nigerians and critics have tied the movie’s success to the energy she put into promoting and advertising the movie on all her social media, giving it widespread recognition and high grossing figures.

Today, we are asking which Funke Akindele do you love the most. Jedidiah Judah from A Tribe Called Judah or Yejide Maduka from Battle on Buka Street.

Jedidiah (A Tribe Called Judah)

Funke Akindele as Jedidah

At a young age, Jedidah’s father disowned her for getting pregnant out of wedlock, and now she strives to care for her five sons, each from a different love interest. We see Jedidah’s devotion and unconditional love for her boys, especially the troublemakers Pere (Timini Egbuson) and Shina (Tobi Makinde), and how protective she could be. The movie opening up with Jedidah’s morning prayer, where she was anointing the head of all her sons, shows a typical Nigerian mother and how far they will go to see their children covered, both physically and spiritually.

While it might seem like the only thing the boys know how to do is cause heartache for Jedidah, we see at the end of the movie the dangerous lengths they were willing to go just to save her from her failing health.

Yejide( Battle on Buka Street)

Funke Akindele as Yejide.

Funke Akindele played the role of Yejide in this movie. A mother of two who owns an amala restaurant on Buka Street. Yejide is hardworking and plays the role of a father for her kids, trying to give them a good upbringing while also maintaining her position as the owner of the restaurant that sells the best amala in the whole of the Otanwa community.

Since birth, she has been in a rivalry with her stepsister, Awele (Mercy Johnson), and is ready to fight till death. They go against each other: pot for pot, charcoal for fire, and punch for punch. However, a series of unfortunate incidents brings an end to a feud older than time.

Funke Akindele definitely ate both roles up, but we will love to know which portrayal resonates more with you, the resilient Jedidah or the tenacious Yejide?
