Winners At The 2023 BET Awards

The 23rd BET Awards ceremony took place yesterday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The ceremony featured performances by nominees Coco Jones, Ice Spice, GlorRilla and Latto. The award ceremony honoured best performance in music, TV, film and sports, in summary celebrating black excellence.

There were two ties, Album of the year award saw a tie between Beyonce’s Renaissance and SZA’s SOS , the second tie was between Chris Brown and Usher for Best Male R&B Pop Artist. SZA took home the Best Female R&B Pop Artist award. The Best Group award was won by Drake and 21 Savage, Future’s sensational Wait For U which features Drake and Tems won Best Collaboration , In a category with the baddest and talented HipHop female artist we saw Latto take home Best Female HipHop Artist , Best Male HipHop Artist went to Kendrick Lamar. SZA won her third award for the night for Video of the Year with her song Kill Bill. Teyana Taylor wins Video Director of the Year, and the ever beautiful Coco Jones bags the Best New Artist award. The Best Gospel/Inspirational award was taken home by Maverick City Music & Kirk Franklin for their song Bless Me , Beyonce added two other awards for the night with her song Break My Soul for the Viewers Choice Award category and the BETHer category. For the fourth time in a roll, Burna Boy won Best International Act, rising Cameroonian sensation Libianca won Best New International Act. Black Panther Wakanda Forever, won the Best Movie award, Damson Idris and Angela Bassett won Best Actor and Best Actress award respectively. Marsai Martins bags the Youngsters Award, Sportsman of the Year and Sportswoman of the Year winners were Angel Reese and Jalen Hurts.

Some of the highlights of the ceremony included celebration of 50years of HipHop with the Lifetime Achievement award, tribute was paid to Tina Turner by Patti LaBelle and Davido’s performance of two of his hit songs Unavailable and Feel off the Timeless album.
